Nach Pausenrückstand: Aces gewinnen WNBA-Finalauftakt

The Las Vegas Aces won the first game of the WNBA Finals against the New York Liberty.

The favored team from the gambling mecca Las Vegas won 99-82 at home on Sunday against the guests from New York, in which Berlin’s Nyara Sabally made a two-minute short appearance in “garbage time” and remained without points.

Jackie Young (five three-pointers) and Kelsey Plum with 26 points each for the Aces, who eliminated Satou Sabally and the Dallas Wings in the semifinals, were the most successful among the winners. Their leader A’ja Wilson had 19 points, Chelsea Gray even one point more.

Liberty lead at the break

For the Liberty, who won the first quarter 25-22 and also led by three points at the break, protagonist Breanna Stewart recorded the best haul with 21 points, Jonquel Jones (16/10 rebounds) took a double-double. It was only in the final period that the Aces were able to pull away (27-17).

In the best-of-five series, it takes three wins to win the title in the best women’s basketball league in the world. Game two is on Thursday night (3 a.m. CEST).
