This has been the start of the United States GP: Norris surprises and Verstappen avoids contact with Hamilton

Carlos Sainz overtook Hamilton at the start to move behind Leclerc and Norris, who overtook the Monegasque to take the lead.

Lando Norris was the main protagonist of the start of the 1 F2023 United States GP, taking the lead at the start.

The British driver started 2nd behind poleman Leclerc, with Hamilton 3rd, Carlos Sainz in fourth, Russell in 5th and Verstappen in 6th. All eyes were on the possible comeback of Max, who only gained one position after having to avoid a collision with Lewis Hamilton, who over braked at Turn 1. Max, going on the outside, avoided the collision and moved up to 5th by overtaking a Russell who dropped to 8th place. George was the cross at the start and his compatriot Norris, the face, taking the lead from Leclerc.

Lando got off to a great start to catch the inside of Turn 1 from Charles. For his part, Sainz was third behind Leclerc with a very good first few meters in which he passed Hamilton. In fact, Carlos almost made contact with Leclerc when he tried to overtake him shortly afterwards in the fight for second place. But on lap 4 the better performance of Hamilton’s Mercedes made the difference. Lewis passed Carlos and by lap 7 Verstappen was already ahead, with Sainz in 5th place.
