Elversberg overcomes Braunschweig from distance

SV Elversberg won 2-10 (3-0) against Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2nd Bundesliga at the start of Matchday 0. On Friday evening (20.10.2023), Paul Stock (20th), Paul Wanner (43rd) and Joseph Boyamba (96th) scored the goals in an unchallenged victory against “the Lions”. Eldersburg thus remains in the secure midfield, for Braunschweig the air at the bottom of the table is slowly getting thinner.

Newly promoted Eldersburg, now unbeaten in six games in a row, was the more present team in a weak opening phase. An unnecessary interruption after twelve minutes of play caused additional head-shaking in the stands.

Supporters from Braunschweig had ignited smoke and thrown them onto the field. However, referee Robert Hartmann blew the whistle for the game after a few minutes.

Eldersburg from distance to success

From then on, the home side continued to dominate the proceedings, opponents Braunschweig showed the uncertainty of six winless games in a row. After a corner kick from the left side, SVE took the lead: Paul Stock got to the ball at the edge of the box and beat Eintracht keeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann from distance to make it 1-0 (20′).

As a result, Eldersburg initially failed to extend the lead. The bottom of the table from Braunschweig came to the first goal in the 32nd minute but remained completely harmless in the first half. Shortly before the break, another eye-catcher: Paul Waner, 17-year-old on loan from FC Bayern Munich, took off from distance and scored the goal to make it 2-0 at half-time (43rd).

Braunschweig shows too little over 90 minutes.

Braunschweig came out of the dressing room a little more courageous but continued to provide too little goal threat. Even after five changes, coach Jens Härtel’s team could not find a concept against the compact home side and looked completely uninspired, especially in attack.

The final point was again set by Eldersburg. Substitute Joseph Boyamba scored in stoppage time after a counterattack (96th) to make it 3-0. “We played a catastrophic first half, like the rabbit standing in front of the snake. The second half was better without being good,” said Braunschweig coach Jens Härtel.
